Duncan McCallum - Director - Adventure Sports

Duncan McCallum is a committed adventure sport exponent with many years experience in the world of adventure sports, both as an activist and professionally.

An ex-competition rock climber, Duncan made many notable first ascents in the late 80’s and early 90’s in both the UK and the USA. During this period, climbing trips were juggled with a career as the UK’s leading adventure sports and expedition cameraman and location director. Working for both the BBC and C4, Duncan made a series of critically acclaimed climbing and expedition films culminating with the making of a stunning documentary of the only successful descent of the infamous Lows Gully in the depths of Mount Kinabalu, Borneo in 1998.

During the later phase of his film career Duncan fronted the ambitious plan to develop a National Rock Climbing Centre for Scotland. Although the project was hampered by funding problems in its latter stages of development, the building remains a testament to the vision of its early champions

Duncan raised over £2.2 million pounds for the project from Lottery sports funds and sponsorship commitments. Additionally he was the principle designer of the “Adventure Centre’s” acclaimed climbing walls that have hosted World Championship competitions in 2003 and 2004.
